Dear Watermark Church family,
“The next day John [the Baptist] was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard [John] speak, and they followed Jesus…
“So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two who heard John [the Baptist] speak and followed [Jesus], was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He found first his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ). He brought [Peter] to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas”(which is translated Peter). John 1:35-42
It was no small thing that “Andrew brought Peter to Jesus!” By introducing his brother Peter to Jesus, it planted the seed for an amazing ministry throughout Peter’s life. The result was thousands of people being led to believe in Jesus through Peter’s teaching and preaching in places like Jerusalem, Antioch, Ephesus, Corinth and Rome.
And it began when Andrew simply asked his brother to come and hear Jesus.
Andrew’s example is significant to us, as we begin to measure the scope of the task given to the church by Jesus to “go and makes disciples of all the world.” (Matthew 28:19,20) Andrew reminds us that the place to begin in reaching others for Christ is not to immediately travel across the world, but instead to look across the dinner table, to look across the neighborhood, to look across the soccer field or to look across the shop floor.
God desires for you to plant seeds of the gospel in your everyday relationships. Through the Word of God, authenticated by how you behave (with the love of Christ), God will use you to multiply His disciples on the earth.
These individuals are in your life for an eternal reason. Pray for their receptivity to God’s Word, and then tell them your story of how Jesus has transformed your life.
This winter, Watermark Church is focusing on helping you become effective at sharing your faith in Jesus with others. Join us the Sunday, February 4 at 10:30 AM as we discover how to fulfill our role in reaching others for Christ!
