Dear Watermark Church family,

“For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again.” 2 Corinthians 5:14,15

As followers of Christ, Paul says that we are to no longer live for ourselves. That means that we choose each day to live for God’s purposes and glory. Living for Him Who died for us means that we honor God’s Word, obey His commands, live by the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit, and to share the resurrection story with as many people we can while on this earth.

But what is a proper and healthy motivation for us to not live for ourselves and to live for God? Certainly not guilt or shame, which can be heaped upon us by the world, other Christians or Satan. Certainly not moralism, which is an attempt by us to live a good life for God, but without the Spirit’s power and leading.

The best motivation to live for Christ, and to share our faith with others, is the love of Christ! Out of great love, He gave His life for us. As we turn our eyes upon Jesus and His love for us, “the things of earth will grow strangely dim.” Living for Him, and not ourselves, becomes a daily reality that brings great joy, as we become fully aware of the depth, breadth, width, and height of the love of God that knows no boundaries.

Are you constantly struggling to live for God and not for yourself or the things of this world? Let the love of Christ motivate you to live in a manner pleasing to Him, including telling others of His amazing grace and forgiveness toward you!
