Dear Watermark Church family,
“Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations (which God revealed to me), for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me—to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this I implored (prayed) the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore, I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 10:7-10
We all believe that God answers prayer. We know He answers our prayers! Yet why is it that sometimes God does not answer our prayers in the timing or manner in which we ask? Do we lack faith? Is He angry with us? Am I asking something out of God’s will?
For example, in the verses above, the apostle Paul was asking God to remove a “thorn in his flesh.” God decided that this difficulty Paul had been living with was leading him to rely more on the Lord than himself for power and fruitfulness, so God said “no” to Paul’s request to take this “thorn” away. Ultimately, God answers our prayers for His glory, and our good.
As we grow in our knowledge of God and His Word, God will shape our prayers to become more in line with His will. If you are concerned about the answers God has been giving you to His prayers, join us thus Sunday at Watermark Church, and we will look at the following phrase to help us understand the paradox of unanswered prayer:
“There are many reasons for God to delay answers to our prayers, or even give us a “no.” You see, If the REQUEST is wrong, God saysNO. If the TIMING is wrong, God says SLOW. If the PERSON is wrong, God says GROW.”

There is a church cleaning / maintenance team meeting this Sunday, 8/26 after the worship service for everyone interested in being added to our cleaning crew rotation. One way we give our visitors a good first impression of our church is to keep our church facility cleaned and well - maintained, for the sake of the gospel. When visitors come into our building for the first time, we want to put our best foot forward, and that includes having an attractive and fully functioning building. Members of this team will be placed on a rotating 6 to 8-week schedule to carry out responsibilities such as cleaning restrooms, mopping floors, stocking toiletries, taking out the garbage, etc.
In addition, some team members will do light Maintenance, such as placing garbage cans out on the curb for trash pick-up, keeping trees/ shrubs trimmed, and periodically changing the A/C filters. Join us for the orientation meeting this Sunday if you are interested in helping.
Please take your donated items to the appropriate designated area for each ministry – 1) School supplies are to be taken to the old church area near the piano. 2) Yard sale items including adult clothes are in the back-entry way of the old church 3) Clothed With Love (CWL) area is by the stairway in the front left side of the sanctuary leading up to where CWL is located, and only has Children’s clothes.
