Dear Watermark Church family,

“Now, brethren, we wish to make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia, 2) that in a great ordeal of affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty overflowed in the wealth of their liberality. 3) For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond, they gave of their own accord, 4) begging us with much entreaty for the favor of participation in the support of the saints, 5) and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.” 2 Corinthians 8:1-5

The apostle Paul informed the churches in Macedonia of a financial need that arose in the church in Jerusalem. As we continue our Sunday morning series of messages on Stewardship, there are six observations about the Macedonian Church which we can learn from in the passage above.

  1. They gave supernaturally. (by the grace of God)

  2. They gave out of affliction. (during persecution)

  3. They gave out of poverty. (they were living in a poor roman province)

  4.  They gave out of personal choice. (out of their own accord)

  5.  They viewed giving as a privilege. (“begging us” for the opportunity to give)

  6.  Their greatest gift was giving themselves to God.

Let’s follow the model of these Macedonian churches as we apply stewardship principles for investing all God has blessed us with to build His Kingdom!
