Dear Watermark Church family,
Next Monday, we honor those who sacrificed their lives in military service, to preserve our freedoms. Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, modeled love and sacrifice by laying down His life for us. Here are some quotes compiled by John Hopler to inspire us to follow the path of Christ in making sacrifices for God.
"No sacrifice should be too great for Him who gave Himself for us." Harry Ironside
"Love is willing self-sacrifice for the good of another that does not require reciprocation or that the person being loved is deserving." Paul David Tripp
"A person's life is his most precious possession. Consequently, to rob him of it is the greatest sin we can commit against him, while to give one's own life on his behalf is the greatest possible expression of love for him. This, then, is the ultimate contrast: Cain's hatred issued in murder, Christ's love (issued) in self-sacrifice." John Stott
"Pray often; for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan." John Bunyan
"Nothing of spiritual significance comes without sacrifice. Your spirituality will always be measured by the size of your sacrifice." Jerry Falwell
"People talk of the sacrifice I have made in spending so much of my life in Africa. It is emphatically no sacrifice. Say rather it is a privilege." David Livingstone
"The Christian faith is meant to be lived moment by moment. It isn't some broad, general outline—it's a long walk with a real Person. Details count: passing thoughts, small sacrifices, a few encouraging words, little acts of kindness, brief victories over nagging sins." Joni Eareckson Tada
"The happiness of married life depends upon making small sacrifices with readiness and cheerfulness." John Selden
"Not one man has ever sacrificed for his Lord without being richly repaid. If the cross is only contrasted with earthly pleasures lost, it may seem hard and threatening. But when the cross is weighed in the balances with the glorious treasures to be had through it, even the cross seems sweet." Walter J. Chantry
"I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God which is your spiritual service or worship." Romans 12:1
Drawn to Jesus – “No one can come to Me [Jesus] unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.” John 6:44
As you observe the people that pass you by each day, on the surface, you have no idea what God is doing in their lives. Yet the apostle John states that God is working in the lives of people every day to draw them to Him. Knowing that, you can be an ambassador for God, looking for how God is drawing people around you to Himself. Join us this Sunday at 10:30 AM at Watermark Church, as I explain how you can join God in His work of leading your friends, family, associates and neighbors to Christ.
“Discovering Your SHAPE for Ministry Class pt. 1”, Sunday, June 9 and “SHAPE Class pt. 2”, Sunday, June 23. (This is a 2-part series class. In Class 2, members interact on their homework from Class 1, and set up a one on one meeting for direct ministry placement. Also, in Class 2 we will discuss ministries in the church where the individual can serve.)
