Dear Watermark Church family,

“Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.” Romans 12:15

Yesterday morning, Madison Smallwood, a 12-year-old Monroe Elementary School student, went to be with the Lord after a long fight with bone cancer.

Madison touched the hearts of the Monroe community during her battle with cancer. She was diagnosed with metastatic osteosarcoma in July 2015. Her fight against bone cancer affected her entire community.

“Rest in Heaven our precious Madison. You will forever be in our hearts. So many people were truly inspired by you and your fight to live!” her family Facebook post said.

As a fifth grader in the city’s school district, Madison had long wished to experience a high school graduation. She got her wish granted as Monroe school officials gave her a special high school graduation ceremony in May, 2018. The entire Monroe community rallied to make her dream come true.

Monroe Schools Superintendent Phil Cagwin presented Madison, dressed in a specially sized graduation cap and gown, with her honorary diploma. “Madison has displayed the many qualities that we have grown to expect from Monroe High School graduates. She is smart, courageous, determined, dedicated,” said Cagwin.

Tim and Patti Kellis are active in the Monroe schools and have been deeply touched by Madison and her courageous battle with cancer. They have requested that we pray for Madison’s family and for the entire community during this time of grief and loss.

Potluck Lunch this Sunday, June 30! Please bring a main dish or a side dish/dessert to share this Sunday morning and join us for a great time of fellowship and food immediately following the Sunday morning worship service.

Vacation Bible School was a huge success! We are rejoicing over all God did during our VBS last week. We had a total of 56 children participating in our VBS and had 30 volunteers who helped during the week. Four children made a decision to receive Christ as their Savior. Thanks to the dozens of volunteers who have made the week and the Friday night Carnival a wonderful success. Please see Tim and Patti Kellis if you would like to volunteer for next year’s VBS, to be held June 8th – 12th!

“During all my years as an evangelist, my message has always been the Gospel of Christ. It is not a Western religion, nor is it a message of one culture or political system… it is a message of life and hope for all the world.” Billy Graham

"For I determined to know nothing among you but Jesus Christ and Him crucified." 1 Corinthians 2:2

Whom has God placed in your life this week for you to influence for Christ?

Understanding the Opioid Crisis - Almost every day we hear a news story about opioid addiction in America. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that over 2 million people in the United States are currently addicted to prescription opioids. In this link, Leith Anderson talks with Dr. Lindsay Stokes about the opioid crisis and how churches and Christians can respond. Here is a helpful message from the National Association of Evangelicals on how the church and Christians can respond to this crisis. This is an encouraging example of how to meet people where they are.

Please keep Peggy German’s mother, Dorothy Thelen, in prayer. She recently fell and fractured her hip, and she has developed pneumonia and kidney issues as well.

A new furnace/AC unit has been installed in the basement of the church this week to replace the one damaged by the basement flood that occurred in April.

Locking the door by the copier - If you exit the church building using the door by the copier, leading to parking lot, be aware that that door will not shut completely by itself. When using that door to enter or exit the building, make sure to shut it and check to make sure it is locked.
