Dear Watermark Church family,
It has been said, "We can accept good news; we can accept bad news; we just can't accept no news."
Mankind has an insatiable desire to "know"—to know the future, to know what's going on with people, to know any information the Internet or others have to offer.
Learning is good. Being “in the know” is good. But at times, God deliberately conceals from us information about the why or when of His timing of many circumstances in our lives. He does this out of His love for us in order to bring about His greater purposes—to conform us into the image of Christ.
Consider the following verses:
"The Lord God commanded the man, saying, 'From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.'" Genesis 2:16-17
"The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law." Deuteronomy 29:29
"A prudent man conceals knowledge." Proverbs 12:23
"It is the glory of God to conceal a matter." Proverbs 25:2
"At that time Jesus said, 'I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants.'" Matthew 11:25
"But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they would not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement." Luke 9:45
"But the disciples understood none of these things, and the meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said." Luke 18:34
"I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now." John 16:12
"Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!" Romans 11:33
May God grant us all grace to trust Him to reveal knowledge to us on His timetable, as we aspire to walk in faith and love for all mankind. (taken from a newsletter by John Hopler)
