Dear Watermark Church family,
“When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:5,6
“I would take it for granted that everyone who becomes a Christian would undertake this practice of taking time to be alone with God in prayer. It is modeled by our Lord; and since they are his commands, I believe in following them. It is always just possible that Jesus Christ meant what he said when he told us to seek the secret place and to close the door.” — C.S. Lewis
God desires that you and I have a Big faith in Him! That you would confidently believe He is with you, that He can be trusted in every circumstance, and that He will provide the grace and resources for your every need.
One common catalyst in the lives of those who have a vibrant faith in God is their practicing of daily spiritual disciplines. Spiritual disciplines help us transform into the image of Christ, and as a result we grow in our faith. Spiritual disciplines result in power to live like Jesus.
As we discuss these disciplines, the goal is not to simply practice them or even master them as an end to itself, but to experience the power of God that results from daily implementation of these holy habits.
These disciplines help us experience God. They result in us entering into a life that walks with God. They help us build a personal experience and history with God. They lead us to a relationship with God that transforms us.
What are some of these spiritual disciplines? Personal worship, bible study, prayer, fasting, silence, solitude, service and giving, to name a few.
These disciplines help us to know and trust God on a daily basis. The life that is filled with faith and pleasing to God does not come by gritting our teeth, but by falling in love with God. Practicing these disciplines will ultimately help us fall more deeply in love with Jesus, and help position ourselves for a life of vibrant faith in God.
Join us this Sunday at 10:30 AM as we look at how developing daily habits in the spiritual disciplines helps us to grow in our faith!
