Victory through Christ, Lord's Supper this Sunday, Pot luck 9/29!

Football season has started…. so there is a lot of talk in our culture about winning and losing, victories and defeats. But there is a more serious battle raging today—in the spiritual realm, for the souls of men. As believers in Christ, we can be confident of this one truth—in this most important battle, we always have the victory through Jesus Christ. Here are some quotes about our victory in Christ, complied by John Hopler.

Remedy for a hurried life, collecting supplies, groups!

Remedy for a hurried life, collecting supplies, groups!

In Luke 10, we see the hurriedness of Martha serving Jesus in her home. She was upset with her sister for not helping her serve Jesus. But with great love and discernment, Jesus instructs Martha, and us, on the main priority of life. Jesus said “Martha, you are worried and bothered by so many things. Few things are necessary, really only one. Mary has chosen to focus on me.”

Learning is good. Being “in the know” is good. But at times, God deliberately conceals from us information about the why or when of His timing of many circumstances in our lives. He does this out of His love for us in order to bring about His greater purposes—to conform us into the image of Christ.

The power of relationships, Water bottle outreach 8/1, updates!

As we consider what it takes to grow in our faith, relationships with other believers are a vital component. Our journey of faith is meant to be lived out in community with others, having as a goal what the Apostle Paul stated above to “keep your eyes on those who live as we do.”

John R. Mott (1865-1955) was an evangelist and leader in the Student Volunteer Movement. He was one of the most influential Christian leaders of his time. Mott also received the Nobel Peace prize in 1946. Below are several lessons relevant to any believer wanting to spread the gospel. John Mott learned each of these as he devoted his life to establish churches worldwide, compiled by John Hopler.

Building on the rock, Outreach opportunity 8/1, New church directory!

Dear Watermark Church family,

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.” Matthew 7:24,25

After Jesus’ amazing “sermon on the Mount” in Matthew chapters 5, 6 and 7, Jesus concluded His teaching with an important caveat – the power of His message is made available to those who obey what they hear.

When you read the Bible, the Holy Spirit touches your heart and life like never before. You begin to grow in your faith when you study and then act on God’s Word. An important catalyst to trusting God is to have God’s Word deeply imbedded in your heart, and then to apply it in your daily life.

To hear and obey God’s Word results in a life that remains “rock solid” in confidence that God is working on your behalf for your good and His glory in every situation you face, no matter how big or small, how good or bad or how long it takes to resolve.

Join us this Sunday at 10:30 AM at Watermark Church, as I continue a series of messages aimed at helping you Grow Strong in Your Faith! Let’s learn together from Jesus how we can build our faith and our lives upon the rock of God’s Word.

Outreach Opportunity August 1 - One of our church goals is to serve our community, to demonstrate the love of Christ to others. With this in mind, Watermark Church is going to participate in the Monroe Police and Fire Night Out on Thursday, August 1 from 5:00pm-9:00pm.

The event will be held at Monroe High School. We will be handing out cold bottles of water during the event.  Last year, another group that did this handed out a pallet of water. We think a pallet is approximately 72 cases.

Here is what we need help with:

- Volunteers to come to Monroe High School on August 1 from 5pm - 9pm.

Bring donated cases of Water (24 or 32 bottles per case) to the church the next couple of Sundays.

- Someone to make waterproof labels with our church information on it to place on each bottle of water (72 cases x 32 bottles = 2304 labels)

- People to place the labels on the bottles beforehand (or second option - a handout about our church that we give to each person when they get the water)

- Donated Bags of Ice for tubs the water will be placed in.

Please let Tim or Patti Kellis know if you are able to contribute in any of the ways listed above, by emailing Tim at timalmtm@aol.com. Plan now to join us for this great way to reach the community!

Church Directory – please update your contact information for the church directory this Sunday morning. A current directory will be available in the lobby for you to check if updates are needed for your info. Please fill out a new info form this Sunday and leave it on the table in the lobby.

A new Offering Box has been placed in the entrance to the sanctuary. We are no longer using offering plates for the tithes, offerings, prayer requests and Connection Cards. Please place these items in the large wooden offering box at your convenience.

Painting the church lobby will begin next week. You will notice this Sunday that the walls have been cleared of all pictures and decorations as we freshen up the main entrance.

Watermark Church hosted a meal for the Madison Smallwood family on Friday, July 12 for 60 people. Madison is the brave 12-year-old Monroe Elementary School student who went to be with the Lord on June 25th after a long fight with bone cancer. It was a wonderful opportunity to fulfill our vision of “meeting people where they are” with the love of Christ.

Grow in your faith, donations needed, outreach opportunity August 1!

Dear Watermark Church family,

And when Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, imploring Him, and saying, “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, fearfully tormented.” Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” But the centurion said, “Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.” Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who were following, “Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel.” Matthew 8:5-10

When the centurion soldier showed great trust and confidence in Jesus that He could heal the soldier’s son, Jesus said He had never seen such great faith with anyone in Israel!

We all admire those around us who seem to have a steadfast faith and trust in God in the face of the most challenging circumstances. They offer us a great example of belief in God that inspires us to trust God more in our lives as well.

Would you like to be known for having great faith in God? To be able to trust God, knowing with confidence that He is working on your behalf for your good and His glory in every situation you face, no matter how big or small, how good or bad or how long it takes to resolve?

It is actually God’s goal for each of us that we develop a deep and abiding faith in Him that stays strong and focused on God’s character, power and will through the trials of life.

Prayer for our leaders, meal for Madison, volunteer opportunities!

Pray for our leaders this July 4th - Franklin Graham, the CEO of international relief group Samaritan's Purse, told Americans celebrating the Fourth of July that now is the time to pray for all the soldiers who have fought and even died for freedom, but also to remember that Christ died for the greatest freedom of all.

God's love or God's wrath?, VBS needs, upcoming events!

When we sin, there is nothing we can do ourselves to remove the guilt, the shame, the power or the penalty of our sins. But it is what Jesus did, when He died and rose from the grave, that removes the stain of our sins far from us, far from God and makes us clean in His eyes. It is our faith, as we believe in the resurrection of Jesus, that removes our guilt and shame. Those who believe in Jesus are made pure and are saved from their sin and its penalty of separation from God.

We are collecting personal hygiene items for Dayton storm victims - “For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’

Remembering their sacrifice, Drawn to God, SHAPE Class 6/9 & 23!

Next Monday, we honor those who sacrificed their lives in military service, to preserve our freedoms. Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, modeled love and sacrifice by laying down His life for us. Here are some quotes compiled by John Hopler to inspire us to follow the path of Christ in making sacrifices for God.

New Members' Class and Baptism 5/19, VBS Volunteers!

The first story we read in the gospels about Jesus as an adult is His baptism. The last command Jesus gave to His disciples before ascending into heaven was that they should go throughout the world making disciples and baptizing them. Baptism is obviously a very important event in the New Testament. Watermark Church will be having a baptism this Sunday, 5/19 during our worship service. Here are some insights on the purpose and meaning of baptism.
